I'm Liz Zuroweste

"To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Minutes after I was born, my mother turned to my dad and asked that I be named Elizabeth. It was not until I started playing competitive soccer that I became “Liz” on the soccer field. As a granddaughter of a U.S. Army Colonel and daughter of a military physician, commitment has always been a family trait. Those character-building years on the field taught me the true meaning of dedication, commitment, and perseverance.

After injuries ended my soccer career, I completed my education in Florida’s public school system, and turned my passion to the law at Stetson University College of Law here in Pinellas County in 2002. Through Stetson, I was honored to be invited to join the Sixth Circuit State Attorney’s Office in Clearwater as a Prosecutor. Working in the criminal justice system is a challenging field, but my commitment to maintaining the integrity and fairness of our justice system and love for this community fuels me every day.

Never one to back down from a challenge, I have worked for the past 15 years to become a widely experienced and balanced prosecutor by:

  • serving as Pinellas County’s first dedicated juvenile gang prosecutor,

  • serving as lead trial attorney on over 80 jury and bench trials,

  • handling crimes ranging from murder to petit theft,

  • working with the community to teach kids the importance of following the law; and,

  • volunteering in community programs to mentor children.

The best rewards of my career have been receiving thank-you notes from victims; saving children from returning to a home of abuse; and helping turn lives around after encounters with the justice system. This work matters.

Perspective matters too. These days, you can find me most weekends on the soccer field watching my two young boys learn to play the sport I love. I could not do my job and enjoy my weekends with the boys without the support of my loving husband Zack. Zack has dedicated his career to running a small law firm in Clearwater.

We know how hard it is to run a small business; how it feels when the economy affects our community; and the incredible struggles we all face balancing family in a modern workforce. My job at the Criminal Justice Complex is demanding; I’m fortunate that my husband has a flexible work schedule. I rely on him to do school drop-offs and attend our boys’ doctor appointments. I have been blessed to have the support needed to successfully raise a family. But not all of our neighbors are so fortunate, and these struggles and concerns play a role in our courts. It is for these reasons, I try to approach each day with compassion and a humble heart.

I believe my experience and perspective has prepared me to serve as your next Pinellas County Judge. My commitment to you and our community is unwavering, and I would be honored to earn your support.

Elizabeth
